Frequently Asked Questions
Most frequent questions and answers
How does the league work?
- 6 Games for each team
- Each team will play once on game days
- 5 Inning games (no new innings after 1h 45m) / 5 run limit per inning except for the final inning
- A draft will be held to ensure all teams are balanced (any new players after the draft will be allocated to ensure fair teams).
- Teams will rank in a league based on Wins and Losses. The top two teams will compete in the Inaugural Cambridge Local League Cup.
How much does it cost?
Our pricing is set to cover the costs of running the league and generate a small profit to allow for more investment into the club. As this is the inaugural Cambridge Local League our pricing may increase or decrease for future leagues.
Local League Pricing (6 Games):
Pricing is TBC once the cost of running the local league is finalised. Currently the club is looking to charge ~£30 for Local League only players and then a discounted price for members who have paid their season fees. A discount will also be applied to Students/U18s.
Who can join?
The league is open to anyone over the aged of 14. Those new to baseball are encouraged to join to practice and gain game experience in a low pressure (but still competitive!) environment
Do I need to have played baseball before?
No! One of the main ideas behind the local league is that new players with no experience of the game can play competitive games without having to make the jump to playing in the BBF. If you have never played before we would strongly advise attending the beginner training course which will run before the local league. Click here to find out more about the Beginner Training sessions on offer.
When does the league start and finish?
The league starts on September 17th 2023 and will end on November 5th 2023. This will hopefully allow each team to play 6 times with 2 “empty” weekends in case the weather stops a game from being played. The timings are to be confirmed but we’re looking to start the games at 11:00 and finish no later than 13:00, with players arriving to the diamonds between 10:00-10:30 depending on how much faster the new field set up is.
How does field set up work?
All players will help with field set up and clear up. The backstops will be used but a new fencing system which will be quicker to put up and put away will be used for the local league.
